Dead Week

Do they call it Dead Week becuase it's supposed to kill you? I hope not. The week before finals is called "Dead Week". It's supposed to be a time of little to no homework for students since we have finals looming over our heads....like a grey storm cloud on a sunny day.

But this week is anything but dead if you ask me. Had to lead a discussion over a book for my history class on Monday, quizzes, and my huge gigantic paper due on Friday. Dead? Pshhh, please.

So, in honor of this years' dead week, I'm living out loud...well sort of. I'm a jeans and tee shirt girl. But not this week. I'm dressing up and looking nice every day. Yes, you should be proud. My nails are usually painted with the french manicure polish, pink nail beds and white tips, but not this week. They are bubblegum pink. I need something to keep me upbeat, cheery and something that screams, summer is almost here!!! Then, after finals week, I'll go back to my plain french manicure polish. But this week, I just need some spunk, some motivation if you will.
Becuase to be honest, next week during finals, I'll be crawling out of bed and shuffling straight to class. So, get ready for sleepless nights, lots of caffeine, sharpened pencils, and all the glory that comes with being in college during finals week.

one man's junk...

Hi there. Hope you're having a great weekend. Jason and I work up early yesterday morning and hit a few garage sales and estate sales.

Isn't this silver server cute? I love the detailing on the rim. I bought the blue flower pin too. Gotta have a little bling!

Found these packs of note cards for 50 cents. Pretty, huh?

Buttons! Jason found this velvet box full of buttons for me! Price....$2.00!!!
Vintage alpahbet flash cards. I can't wait to play with these!

Finally, this is the desk I got from Corrine. I have it in the garage right now, I need to clean off my current desk before I bring this one in. Isn't is adorable? I fell in love with it. It's got this blue chippy paint underneath the black which looks really awesome. I'm especially fond of the crystal drawer pulls.

TGIF!!

Finally Friday! Yay! This week flew by!

I babysat for a nurse I work with yesterday. She has 3 kids ALL under the age of five. Yea...what the hell was I thinking? Obviously I wasn't! The 8 month old cried non-stop the entire time. So basically next time I say that I want 3 kids, slap me. No really, slap me. Do it!

School was good today. My spanish teacher's wife finally had her baby. So...now we're waiting to see what they named him. One of the grad students said they named him something weird.

Date tonight with Jason! I think we might watch movies and then in the morning we're going antiquing and hitting some estate sales. How did I get lucky enough to find a guy who likes o go antiquing?! Seriously! Lucky me!

Better go get ready!

Made My Day

My day started off kinda of crappy. No particular reason for it just a blah day....misting rain, cool, humid, clammy Tuesday morning.

As I was driving to school I got the sweetest text message from Corrine. (aka Sassy). She is seriously a day brightener! Corrine, thanks for your thoughtful message, it totally made my day!

Unit 20...

I was on the ambulance again yesterday. I was with Gary and Randy from Westside Station. Those guys are seriously the best. Gary is one of the funniest people I know, seriously. We had a few calls yesterday. We even invented a "curtain of silence". Gary is encouraging me to go all the way and get my Paramedic (2 years of school) so "I can take you under my wing and show you the ropes of this place". We'll see. I seriously love it though.

Both Gary and Randy have been paramedics for a while, (Randy 17 years and Gary 8) so they have been really awesome about answering questions and showing me things like how to load the stretcher in the ambulance, taking blood pressure, how the lights and sirens work (my favorite part!!), and lots of other things.

Whew! So much to do now. I have to read 2 books this week, start on my final paper, Spanish test on Tuesday, etc.

My friend Valerie is getting married in a month and we're going to her bridal shower this afternoon. I can't wait to see her. It's been a while, that's for sure!

More later!

Saturday Pictures

It's Saturday! So, in honor of this glorious day I decided to upload some pictures.

See that? Look closer? Yup! No more nail biting! Arent' they fabulous? Yea, I'm quite proud...
P.S. - How about that pretty ring? It was my spring break present to myself. It's an aqua stone (my birthstone) surrounded by diamonds. So pretty.
My next great find is courtesy of my mom. She found that funky candle holder at a garage sale. Isn't it fab? I'm loving it, for sure!
My table in my room. Isn't that blue shutter great? I found it one say when Corrine and I went shopping at Rink Gallery. The apothecary jar is one of my favs and the glass balls have H's and W's on them. Perfect, don't you think?

Spring

Sorry it's been so long since my last post, but it's that time of year...you know...finals, papers coming up, tests, etc.

Lots of new stuff happening in my world. Let's see here. First, I stopped biting my nails, that's a serious accomplishment. I've been a nail biter for 23 years and I fianlly kicked the habit. Yay!

Something really exciting....I'm getting my EMT license. I went on a ride along last week with our paramedics at the hospital and wow. Seriously. I fell in love with it. Sirens. Lights. Driving fast to rescue someone. Very cool/intense feeling. I start May 13th, so get prepared for some cool stuff. I'm doing another ride along tomorrow and I can't wait!!

School is going good I suppose. I'm burned out and ready to be done (which always happens this time of year). I'm still struggling in Spanish, but there really isn't a lot I can do to change that.

I'm still looking for some free time, so if you come across any, please send it my way. I'm dying to create. Anyone know of a good swap/secret-sister thing going on? I need an excuse to play!!!

XOXO

Why is it?

Why is it that the ones we love hurt us the most? Think about it for a minute. We have no problem telling someone we're related to "Hey, you look like crap today", but we would never say something like that to a friend. Why? Well, the answer is simple, we know the people we're related to are stuck with us and that they'll always love us, so we tend to be ruder to them because you know that'll love you anyway. Are you following me?

I've noticed this a lot in my life lately. 3 days a week (Mon-Wed)I stay in Norman with my sister in her 2 bedroom apartment. Her friend Gloria stays here on those same nights. However, Gloria gets the extra bedroom, and I'm stuck on the couch. I asked Whitney about it and she said, "Well, Gloria is my friend". So, in this case, being the friend gets you the comfortable bed and your own room and being the sister gets you the couch in the living room. Gotcha. However, when she needs something who does she call first? Me. She'll whine, "But you're my sister!" You're right Whitney, I am your sister. Maybe I'm just being overly sensitive, but it's frustrating.

Then today, I picked Whitney up from school and she couldn't find her tax return (turns out it was wedged between me and the seat). So she's talking to our mom on the phone (on speakerphone) and said, "Yea, I couldn't find my tax return, Holly was sitting on it" and my mom says back to her, "Well if Holly was sitting on it then it would be awfully hard to find now wouldn't it?" My jaw dropped and I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. Whitney said, "Um, mom, you're on speakerphone" and then my mom starts back-peddeling trying to cover for herself, "Uh, I mean, if I was sitting on it, it would be hard to find too." Too late mom, the damage is already done. I felt the tears stream down my face.

I'm sharing this with you because I want you to do or say something nice to someone in your family today and try to be aware of how you treat your family compared to how you treat your friends. Because in the long run, your family will be there for you and your friends may or may not be.
